Psalm 16 Refuge

I take refuge in You, O God
I turn to you in thanksgiving, I rest in you in difficulty
I thank you for life in this beautiful place,
for a heritage which forms me and teaches me,
I thank you for the heart you planted within me, and for the
still small voice which urges it to grow.
My spirit is glad, and my body rests in hope
You show me the path of life,
and in your presence is Joy.

Christine, I love this, having just finished a course on the psalms by Fr Charles Waddell here in Perth West Australia, who encouraged us to read them as prayers of the faith community of their times. So, he said, play with the words, make them relevant to the situation you find yourself in in much the way as you have.

We are preparing a eulogy for a deceased Brother and I found the final part of your psalm 16 to be very appropriate. May we quote them in the eulogy?

I come back with fresh enthusiasm to pray with your psalms and perhaps write some of my own.

Blessings, Terry

I love your words Christine and after doing a course on psalms where we were told these were prayers of the faith community and arose out of their life experiences, we should be encouraged to play with the words to capture our own experience and relationship with God. You have done that well and I return to your blogspot to refresh my taste for these prayers and may write some of my own when the occasion calls for aheartfelt prayer.

Blessings,

Terry
